Fast Charging Tech & Cable Bottlenecks

High Voltage Approach (Standard PD/PPS)Devices using standard protocols keep power between 30W–65W by raising voltage (15V, 20V) while keeping current under 3A. Because current load on the cable is low, almost any standard Type-C cable (even without an E-Marker chip) can deliver up to 60W.
High Current Proprietary ApproachTo break past 100W without phone step-down heat, brands use low-voltage, high-current specs (e.g., 11V / 9A). This exceeds Type-C's native 5A physical limit, requiring thick custom copper wires and detection pins. Standard cables will trigger safety fallbacks down to basic slow charging.

Fixed Voltage vs Dynamic Protocols (PPS / AVS)

Standard PD and legacy protocols use Fixed PDOs (5V, 9V, 15V, 20V). PPS (Programmable Power Supply) allows devices to dynamically request micro-adjustments in 20mV steps, drastically reducing thermal losses inside the phone. The newer AVS (Adjustable Voltage Supply) in PD 3.1 enables high-voltage dynamic adjustments between 15V and 48V for high-power devices.

Why does my 100W charger only supply 15W? (PDO Mismatch)

Fast charging is about 'Voltage (V) × Current (A)', not just total wattage. If a device asks for 9V/5A (PPS) for 45W charging, but your 100W charger only supports 20V/3.25A on PPS, it can't deliver 5A. Handshaking fails, falling back to basic 9V/1.67A (15W) slow charging due to incomplete PDO profiles.
