The Truth About Fake HDMI 2.1 Displays

Since 2021, the HDMI Licensing Administrator stopped issuing HDMI 2.0 certifications, forcing legacy HDMI 2.0 products to be labeled under HDMI 2.1 instead. This means many budget 'HDMI 2.1' TVs and cables on the market only offer 18Gbps bandwidth and cannot output 4K at 120Hz! When buying, always verify if the device supports the FRL protocol (up to 48Gbps) or look for 'Ultra High Speed' certified cables.

Is DSC (Display Stream Compression) truly lossless?

Monitors and GPUs auto-engage DSC, a visually lossless, ultra-low latency compression technology. It compresses required bandwidth down to 1/3 with zero perceived loss in image quality, serving as the essential tech enabling modern high-refresh-rate displays.

The Hidden Trap of Laptop Type-C Display Adapters

Laptop Type-C display output uses DP Alt Mode. If your Hub/Dock is simultaneously connected to USB 3.0 peripherals (like hard drives or ethernet), the available DP bandwidth lanes are cut in half! Unless your monitor supports DSC compression, driving even 4K 60Hz might fail.
