💡 Why does my 1 TB hard drive only show 931 GB on Windows?
This disparity stems from differing measurement systems. Storage manufacturers use the Decimal system (Base 10) where 1 TB = 1,000,000,000,000 Bytes. Windows uses the Binary system (Base 2), defining 1 KiB as 1,024 Bytes (labeled as KB).
Dividing 1,000,000,000,000 Bytes by 1,024³ (GiB) yields approximately 931 GiB. Enter 1 into the TB field in the decimal card above to view its binary conversion in the GiB field!
