About 3D models

What is a 3D model?

A 3D model is made up of geometry, materials and textures. Geometry defines its shape, materials control properties such as gloss and transparency, and textures add colors and detail. Some models also include animations, such as opening doors, rotating parts or character movements.

How do GLB and glTF differ?

Both use the same model standard. glTF commonly stores the model description, geometry and textures in separate files, while GLB can package them into a single file for easier sharing and loading. Animation is available only if the model file includes animation data.

AR questions and answers

How does AR place models in the real world?

Augmented reality (AR) uses the camera and device sensors to track your phone and find surfaces such as tables or floors, making virtual models appear to stay in the real world. Lighting, surface texture and movement speed affect detection; well-lit, textured surfaces are usually easier to track.

Why can’t my device use AR?

Both your device and browser must support WebXR AR. Safari on iOS does not currently support the WebXR AR used by this tool, so this AR mode is unavailable on iPhone. A newer browser alone does not guarantee support. Check the support message on this page and use 3D mode if AR is unavailable.

Why can’t it detect a table or floor?

In a well-lit area, point the camera at a table or floor and move your phone slowly. Plain, reflective or transparent surfaces are harder to detect. Try an area with more texture, or place a book on the table to provide recognizable details.

Why does the placed model drift or shake?

AR continuously estimates the position of your phone and its surroundings. Fast movement, a covered camera or poor lighting can affect tracking. Move slowly and let the camera see the surrounding area again. If needed, tap “Place again” to reposition the model.

Is the model shown at its real size in AR?

This tool adjusts the initial display size based on the distance from your phone to the placement point and the field of view. The longest dimension is limited to between 10 cm and 1 m, so it does not represent the object’s actual size. After placement, the size stays fixed; you can also pinch with two fingers to adjust it.
